I wanted to be an NBA player.

When I was a kid, the furthest thing from my mind was school. Instead of studying like my sister, I would come home from school and play basketball for hours. When I practiced, I felt the world melt away.

I found in surgery what I loved in basketball.

When I shadowed neurosurgery for the first time in sophomore year of college, I felt reconnected to basketball. Just like in basketball, being a good surgeon required lots of practice. Just like in basketball, surgery was a team sport involving many different roles. And just like in basketball, being in the operating room brought me peace.

I originally went to medical school to become a neurosurgeon. However, I want to graduate medical school to become an otolaryngologist.

My experience with ENT was transformative.

For the first time, I felt like I could enjoy my job and be a happy person, too. The team in ENT welcomed me like I’d never been welcomed before. It is their guidance and encouragement that really helped foster a strong interest in otolaryngology.

Excited for what’s next?
Me, too!

Stick around, and let’s see what my career brings me.
